- Useful information
In keeping with the Victorian style of the hotel, all rooms have their own identity, with no two rooms being the same. All rooms are decorated in a traditional fashion. All rooms are en-suite and have a television, tea/ coffee making facilities and a trouser press. The restaurant is decorated in a traditional style, which is in keeping with the Victorian period property. A traditional Victorian building with character.
The welcoming lobby has a marble floor and a comfortable seating area, which adds to the relaxing, home from home atmosphere. The hotel has a lively bar area which also serves snacks and light meals. (GW 05/2008)

4.2My opinion about this hotelAlison-Jane - 24-Nov-2008
The room the first night was dirty - the carpet had a greater variety of wildlife than the Amazon rainforest, there was damp down the walls, the bathroom ceiling was mouldy, the double bed mattress had so many broken springs it was like a bed of nails and we had an undermattress in two parts, one of which was missing a wheel meaning there was a step just where your hip should be. We remedied this by a weighty tome of the Yellow Pages ! Sheets that were too small to tuck in, and suspiciously dark toned wool blankets. Heating not on, despite subzero temperatures on a bitter November night.
On the second day, we requested a change of mattress (none available) we were offered a change of room. This was on a lower floor and somewhat more acceptable. At least the carpet did not make your skin crawl and the sheets were big enough for the bed, thus avoiding contact with the blanket. Nevertheless the mattress was unhealthily soft, which meant a second virtually sleepless night.
Breakfast was satisfactory, but the person in charge of the restaurant for breakfast was obviously not happy in her job, judging by the scowls on arrival, when we asked for two different drinks, toast etc...
I will not be returning there, and I would certainly not recommend this hotel to anyone. The only thing in its favour is its central location.
